Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, features 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that features many conveniences on top of the gambling den, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
